Spotify listening history: where to find it, and why you cannot clear it
Recents lives behind your avatar on mobile and the queue icon on desktop. You cannot delete entries — but you can hide them from other people, stop an artist shaping recommendations, and download your full history.
Two separate questions get asked here, and they have different answers. Finding your history is easy. Clearing it is not possible.
Where your listening history is
On mobile: tap your avatar at the top, then Recents. There is a second route — from Home, tap your profile picture at the top left and choose the Listening history icon.
On desktop: click the Queue icon at the bottom right, then Recently played at the top of the right-hand panel.
That is the recent view. It is short by design and it is not your full history.
You cannot delete items from it
This is the part most guides get wrong, so plainly: Spotify does not let you remove or delete entries from listening history. There is no clear-history button, no per-item delete, and no setting that empties it.
Anything promising to wipe your Spotify history is either describing one of the three things below, or is not telling you the truth.
The three things you can actually do
1. Hide recently played artists from other people. This is usually what people mean by "clear my history" — they do not want it visible. Go to Settings and privacy → Privacy and social, and switch Recently played artists off. Your history still exists; it stops being public.
2. Stop an artist affecting your recommendations. Use Do not play on an artist's profile. This does not remove past plays, but it stops that artist steering what Spotify suggests — which is the actual complaint behind most "clear my history" searches.
3. Push it down by listening. History is a rolling recent list. Playing more of what you want moves the rest out of view. Crude, but it is the only mechanism that changes what the recent view shows.
If you want your full history, not the recent list
Request a copy of your personal data from Spotify. It includes your streaming history — the last year, or the lifetime of the account depending on which export you ask for — with track details and when and how you played each one.
This is the only way to see beyond the short recent list, and it is also the honest answer to "how far back does Spotify history go": further than the app shows you.
The short version
- See it: avatar → Recents (mobile), queue icon → Recently played (desktop).
- Delete it: not possible.
- Hide it from others: Settings and privacy → Privacy and social → Recently played artists off.
- Stop it shaping suggestions: Do not play, on the artist.
- See all of it: request your personal data export.
